School Overview:
The Preuss School is a coeducational college-preparatory charter day school, located on the $14 million University of California, San Diego (UCSD) campus. Part of the San Diego Unified School District, The Preuss School is a unique charter middle and high school for low income, highly motivated students who strive to become the first in their families to graduate from college. Home of the Tritons, the school is also referred to as Preuss School UCSD, or Preuss Model School.
Recognized by Newsweek as the top transformative high school in the nation for three years in a row,
Preuss School students come from throughout San Diego County to take advantage of an environment
that encourages “intellectual risk-taking while offering an array of academic supports.”
Graduates are consistently accepted to four-year colleges and universities at a rate of nearly 95 percent,
and almost 100 percent are going on to some form of higher education. Although the goal is to prepare
students for higher education, the school prides itself on also providing students with the skills
necessary to “effect change in society and help transform communities here in San Diego and
throughout the world.”
