Torrey Pines Elementary School (TPES) is located high on a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean in La Jolla, near the University of California, San Diego. The high-performing school is designated as a California Distinguished School by the California Department of Education and one of two schools in San Diego to receive the 2013 National Blue Ribbon School Award. Only 15 schools in California received this honor, and only 286 schools nationwide.
Consistently ranked as one of the top performing elementary schools in San Diego County and in the top 5% of schools in the state, the school has a very active parent involvement program, spearheaded by the Torrey Pines Elementary School Foundation (TPESF).
TPES’ mission is to “provide an environment conducive to student learning in which each child feels successful, achieves academically, and thinks critically, and in which teachers, students, administrators, parents, and community members work together to create and maintain a comprehensive curriculum based on student needs and state standards.”
Low class sizes, a strong Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) program, and a variety of student programs help students achieve both socially and academically.
